Desktop Icons Missing or Disappeared – Windows Shows Blank?
Posted on 06:56 by Unknown
Were you working on something and all of a sudden you find your desktop icons and the Start button taskbar disappeared from your desktop? This can happen quite frequently especially when you have bad software installed or your computer has been infected by virus.
It’s pretty annoying because usually when this happens to you, the start button and the taskbar are gone too. All you can see is just your desktop wallpaper and that leaves you with nothing much to click on. This is what commonly known as a blank desktop.
This problem can be caused by 2 possible reasons.
- crashed explorer.exe which handles the desktop startup process,
- your desktop icons are simply hidden.
The below solutions can be applied to Windows 7, Vista and XP.
Fix 1: Restart your computer - Blank Desktop Icons Missing or Disappeared
The first thing you should try is to restart your computer. If windows opens as usual without any problem, you can continue your work. If you’re still worrying that it will happen again next time, read Fix 4.
Fix 2: Enable ‘Show Desktop Icons’ - Blank Desktop Icons Missing or Disappeared
If only your desktop icons disappeared (but taskbar is still there on your screen), it probably means your desktop icons are simply hidden. To re-display your desktop icons, first, right-click anywhere on the desktop and then choose View (In Windows XP -> choose Arrange Icons By). Next check the Show Desktop Icons item.
Fix 3: Re-launch explorer.exe - Blank Desktop Icons Missing or Disappeared
If everything’s gone and the only thing that’s left to look at is your desktop wallpaper, you can re-launch your desktop. To do so, hold CTRL + ALT + press DEL, and then select Task Manager. From there, go to Applications tab and then click New Task. Type explorer.exe into the open field and then press OK. Your desktop icons and start menu taskbar should show up again. If not, read Fix 4.
Fix 4: Replace explorer.exe - Blank Desktop Icons Missing or Disappeared
If Windows shows you that the explorer.exe is either crashed or missing when you try to launch it, you’ll have to replace the explorer.exe with a new one. Here’s how:
- Copy explorer.exe from other clean computer which has the same version of Microsoft Windows as yours (from C:\WINDOWS), save it into your pendrive or other storage medium.
- In your computer, follow the Fix 3 steps until you clicked New Task, in the open field, type your pendrive directory (e.g. E:/), or simply click Browse to locate your pendrive.
- Select the new explorer.exe then press CTRL + C to copy.
- Click New Task again, type C:\Windows in the open field, and then hit OK.
- Explorer.exe is hidden by default. Show hidden files from (Tools – Folder Options – View – Show hidden files and folders)
- Delete the existing explorer.exe.
- Paste the new explorer.exe.
- Reboot your PC and the problem should be gone now.

Dengue Fever Remedy

Dengue Fever Remedy (Courtesy Brig V Thyagarajan)
I would like to share this interesting discovery from a classmate's son who has just recovered from dengue fever. Apparently, his son was in the critical stage at the ICU when his blood platelet count drops to 15 after 15 liters of blood transfusion.
His father was so worried that he seeks another friend's recommendation and his son was saved. He confessed to me that he gave his son raw juice of the papaya leaves. From a platelet count of 45 after 20 liters of blood transfusion, and after drinking the raw papaya leaf juice, his platelet count jumps instantly to 135. Even the doctors and nurses were surprised. After the second day he was discharged. So he asked me to pass this good news around.
Accordingly it is raw papaya leaves, 2pcs just cleaned and pound and squeeze with filter cloth. You will only get one tablespoon per leaf.. So two tablespoon per serving once a day. Do not boil or cook or rinse with hot water, it will loose its strength. Only the leafy part and no stem or sap. It is very bitter and you have to swallow it like "Won Low Kat". But it works.
*Papaya Juice - Cure for Dengue*
You may have heard this elsewhere but if not I am glad to inform you that papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. As dengue fever is rampant now, I think it's good to share this with all.
A friend of mine had dengue last year.. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water has started to fill up her lung. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-year old. Doctor says there's no cure for dengue. We just have to wait for her body immune system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle. She already had 2 blood transfusion and all of us were praying very hard as her platelet continued to drop since the first day she was admitted.
Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeeze the juice out for her. The next day, her platelet count started to increase, her fever subside. We continued to feed her with papaya juice and she recovered after 3 days!!!
Amazing but it's true. It's believed one's body would be overheated when one is down with dengue and that also caused the patient to have fever papaya juice has cooling effect. Thus, it helps to reduce the level of heat in one's body, thus the fever will go away. I found that it's also good when one is having sore throat or suffering from heat.
Please spread the news about this as lately there are many dengue cases. It's great if such natural cure could help to ease the sufferings of dengue patients.
Furthermore it's so easily available.
Blend them and squeeze the juice! It's simple and miraculously effective!!
Please circulate as much as possible.

Top 5 things you must do to SQL Server
Posted on 11:52 by Unknown
So if you're a busy administrator who's been asked to manage SQL Server, what should you be paying attention to? What tasks should you be performing on a regular basis to ensure the health and well-being of your new charge? This simple list highlights the five most important things any administrator can do for their SQL Server installation, keeping it tuned, online and recoverable.
1: Do better backups
A solid disaster recovery plan – as well as granular data recovery plan – is your No. 1 tool for being a SQL superhero. Start using frequent transaction log backups in between your normal full and differential backups. Better yet, look for a “Backup 2.0” continuous data protection solution – vendors like AppAssure and Sunbelt Software, and others offer solutions – that will prevent you from losing more than a minute of data in the event of a failure. They also make restoring faster and easier.
2: Make a maintenance plan
While you’re backing up your databases, make sure you’re updating database statistics, reorganizing indexes and so forth. If your server is configured to start SQL Server Agent (a separate service) automatically, then use SQL Management Studio to create a new Maintenance Plan that’ll run automatically and accomplish many of these tasks for you. Don’t just set it and forget it, though;review the plan’s job log periodically to make sure it’s working.
3: Back up the master database
You might not realize it, but master is where SQL Server stores all of its own configuration settings. In a disaster recovery situation, you need a recent backup of master to bring your server fully back to life. You don’t necessarily need minute-by-minute backups, because master doesn’t change that often. However, any time you make a server-wide configuration change, or add or remove a database, update your backup of master.
4: Configure operators and alerts
Within SQL Server, provided SQL Server Agent is running, you can configure operators that represent real-life human beings. Provide your work schedule and contact information to SQL Server and then configure alerts, which are situations that will generate a message to you – if it occurs during your specified work schedule. This is a good way to keep on top of database files that unexpectedly run out of room, server-wide issues and so on.
5: Tune your indexes
Aside from rebuilding and reorganizing them on a regular basis, tuning your indexes – something I do once every year, year and a half on a busy database – gives SQL a chance to re-evaluate your database given its current condition and workload. Use SQL Profiler to capture real-world database traffic and feed that information to the Database Engine Tuning Advisor to get solid recommendations on changes that can improve performance. Today’s index design is not necessarily the best design for tomorrow, so occasionally revisiting the Advisor is a good idea.
See, nothing difficult. No tools you have to buy, and nothing you really have to add to your existing daily workload. Just a few simple tasks will keep your databases running more smoothly and make sure you’re covered in the event of a failure.

Defend you PCs from USB pendrives
Posted on 09:30 by Unknown
The USB Vaccine Setup is a freeware which may be installed in all your PCs to protect your PCs from pen drive viruses. Normally the pen drive have a 'autorun' which is responsible for spreading the virus in all systems whereever you insert them.
This vaccine will prevent the autorun in pendrives and CD/DVD etc in spreading the viruses. You can also vaccinate your personal pendrives so you own pen drives does not spread any viruses, malware or any other stuff to other computers.

Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare
Lok Nayak Bhawan, New Delhi-110003
Dated the 28th September, 2010.
OFFICE MEMORANDUM
Sub: Implementation of Government’s decision on the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission – Revision of pension of pre-2006 pensioners/family pensioners etc
The undersigned is directed to say that in this Department’s O.M. of even number dated 21.5.2009 and 11.8.2009 it was provided that in case the information regarding date of birth/age is not available in the PPO or the office records, certain documents , viz. PAN Card, Matriculation certificate, Passport, CGHS Card, Driving licence and Voter’s ID Card, would be accepted as proof of date of birth/age for payment of additional pension/family pension on completion of age of 80 years and above. It was also provided that the Pension Disbursing Authority/Bank will make payment of additional pension/family pension in the above manner, on provisional basis, up to a period of three months from the month in which the proof of age/date of birth is submitted by the pensioner/family pensioner. In such cases, the Pension Disbursing Authority/Bank will immediately send one copy each of the document submitted by the pensioner/family pensioner to the Pay and Account Officer/CPAO for formal authorisation of the additional pension/family pension. The Pension Disbursing Authority/Bank will make payment of additional pension/family pension beyond a period of three months only on receipt of such an authorisation from the Pay and Account Officer. These instructions were reiterated in this Department’s O.M. of even number dated 25.6.2010.
2. It has been brought to the notice of this Department that, in many cases, final authorisation could not be communicated by Pay & Accounts Offices to the Pension Disbursing Banks even after expiry of the stipulated period of three months from the month in which the proof of age/date of birth was submitted by the pensioner/family pensioner on account of non-receipt of sanction from the Heads of Offices.
3. Considering the hardship that is likely to be caused to the old pensioners/family pensioners due to discontinuance of additional pension by the Pension Disbursing Authority/Bank in such cases, it has been decided that where the pensioner/family pensioner has submitted any of the prescribed documents as proof of age/date of birth, etc., payment of additional pension/family pension, on provisional basis, will continue to be made till 31.12.2010 or for a period of six months from the month in which the proof of age/date of birth was submitted by the pensioner/family pensioner, whichever is later. The Heads of Offices may ensure that all formalities regarding sanction may be taken up and additional pension sanctioned within the same period. In case the pensioner/family pensioner is unable to submit any of the documents mentioned in OMs dated 21.5.2009 and 11.8.2009 but claims additional pension based on some other documentary evidence, such cases will be submitted to the administrative Ministry. If the administrative Ministry is satisfied about the claim of the pensioner/family pensioner, it will authorise additional pension/family pension accordingly. The decision of the Administrative Ministry in this regard will be final.
