What is the difference between Cc and Bcc?

Posted on 09:36 by Unknown
In e-mail terminology, Cc stands for "carbon copy" and Bcc stands for "Blind carbon copy". The difference between Cc and Bcc is that carbon copy (CC) recipients are visible to all other recipients whereas those who are BCCed are not visible to anyone.

To specify the recipients, an e-mail message can contain addresses in any of the 3 following fields:

  • To: field recipients are the audience of the message
  •  CC: field recipients are others whom the author wishes to publicly inform of the message (carbon copy)
  • BCC: field recipients are those being discreetly or surreptitiously informed of the communication and cannot be seen by any of the other addressees.
It is common practice to use the BCC: field when addressing a very long list of recipients, or a list of recipients that should not (necessarily) know each other, e.g. in mailing lists.

Example of CC vs BCC

From: Frank Sinatra
 To: Kurt Cobain
Cc: Bob Dylan; Jim Morrison
Bcc: Mark Knopfler; Paul McCartney

In the above example, all recipients of the email (including Mark Knopfler and Paul McCartney) will see the following email header information when they receive the email:

From: Frank Sinatra
To: Kurt Cobain
Cc: Bob Dylan; Jim Morrison

This means that none of the recipients will know who the Bcc recipients are. Each of the BCCed recipients will, of course, realize that they were on BCC but they will not know who else was on BCC.

Put all your Emails on a USB Drive for Offline Access

Posted on 08:24 by Unknown

How do you ensure that you always have access to all your emails - even at places where there is no Internet or when you aren’t carrying your own laptop?
One of the popular options is that you use a tool like Microsoft Outlook to download all your emails to the computer beforehand and you can then read them anywhere even in offline mode. Both Gmail and Hotmail offer POP3 access to help you download messages using any email client while there are easy workarounds for Yahoo Mail.
There are some downsides though. First, most email clients aren’t portable (can you carry emails on a USB drive?) and second, if all you want is offline access to your Gmail messages and nothing extra, Outlook is probably too heavy a tool for that purpose.
I have been testing a Windows-only utility called MailStore that seems like an ideal solution for such a problem – the tool is free, there’s a portable version for your USB stick and best of all, it works out of the box with your email account without requiring any configuration.

Step by Step – How to Backup your Emails

The way MailStore works is something like this. You install (or unzip) the software to a folder and then select the email accounts that you want to archive. They can be your Gmail accounts, Microsoft Exchange, your old Outlook PST files, Thunderbird and any other web email service that supports either IMAP or POP3.
Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 5

The tool will pull your email messages from all these places into a central location. If you have a large mailbox, you may specify criteria to skip emails that are older than ‘n’ days. It skips the Spam and Junk folders by default but you may also manually specify any folders /labels that you wish to include (or exclude) from the backup.
That’s it. There’s a convenient search box allowing you to search all your email accounts from one place. You can copy the MailStore folder to your USB drive, or even your Dropbox folder, and access all the emails from anywhere, anytime. Since this is more of an email backup utility and not a full-blown email client, it cannot be used for replying or sending new emails.
To quickly recap, here are some scenarios where you may find Mail Store useful:
0. You want to backup all your web mails to a safe location.
1. You want to carry your Microsoft Exchange / Outlook emails on a USB drive.
2. You have multiple email accounts and need to search all your mailboxes from one place.
3. You want offline access to all your web-based email accounts.

Best Features of Google Chrome

Posted on 20:20 by Unknown

As you all aware that Chrome is web browser made by Giant Internet company Google. In my opinion it is one of the best Browser available in market. Internet explorer is always useless no matter what Microsoft claims but it cannot beat Chrome and Firefox in features and performance. What I like most about Chrome is it’s speed, it beats Firefox because of one reason – Speed.

Here are 3 top benefits why you should start using Chrome instead of other browser like Internet Explorer and Firefox. All other browser are nowhere in competition even though they are decent.

1. Speed - Start Faster than all other- Google chrome start faster than Firefox and much better than internet explorer, safari and Opera etc.. The user interface of its windows is very simple. If you just started using it you might feel that it is not so great but once you use it for several days you will find that it is much faster than others. It’s cache and DNS Prefetch feature wins the race after usage of few days. Initially only difference you will feel that load time, Load time for Google chrome is nearly half of the Firefox.

2. One Click Surfing - Google chrome can open any webpage you like to read regularly. The tabbing and bookmark toolbar allow you to go to your favorite website with one click without searching or typing anything. It’s easy to use interface make it better than all other browser whether it’s safari or Firefox.

3. Safety and Phishing Protection – Internet is full with phishing and malware site. You can reach to these sites while searching anything and you won’t even know that you browsing a malware site, which can retrieve your personal data without your knowledge. Internet explorer also have phishing protection but it’s not very good as compared to Firefox and Google Chrome. Firefox Malware protection rely on Google data so obviously it is always better to use a product from Google than some 3rd party application. Moreover Most computer viruses are designed to attack and spread by using Microsoft Inbuilt Internet Explorer API.

If you like to browse with speed then Google Chrome is best choice. Closest match to speed of Google Chrome is Opera but feature list of Google chrome Beats the Opera in overall browsing experience.

Why Do We Love Skype?

Posted on 10:56 by Unknown

Undeniably the most popular voice over internet provider across the world, Skype has clearly gone a long way evolving from being just another provider to ultimate holy grail in the VOIP industry.
As on 2010, Skype commands an impressive 12.8 billion minutes out of the overall 413 billion minutes of international telephone traffic. In addition to this, Skype users generate 190 billion minutes of “on-net” Skype-to-Skype traffic to make this young company the fastest growing telecommunications behemoth.
While there are hundreds if not thousands of similar VOIP providers on the internet, it’s interesting to note how this one brand has successfully created a niche for itself without really pumping in truckloads of marketing dollars.
Recently Microsoft has made its enormous crush for Skype public by announcing the $ 8.5 billion takeover and I am sure that with 145 million active users, there would be hundreds of reasons why people love Skype, but here are top three of my personal favorites:

  • Quality: The VOIP market was always like a dollar store. You get excellent bargains, really cheap rates but equally cheap products. While the competition just spoke about how fantastic their rates were, Skype ensured quality of service. Of course VOIP quality is heavily dependent on how good the subscriber internet connection is, but by using a smart peer-to-peer technology, Skype delivers a better quality experience with an inexpensive, easy to scale architecture.
  • Customer Focus: Conventional telecom companies are limited by their regional focus and therefore tend to provide services catering to very specific segments for example calling from US to India. Skype takes advantage of its global presence on Internet to create a ‘long-tail’ strategy, thus catering to hundreds of different segments of customers from across the world through one single product.
  • Seamlessness: Skype was not the first-mover in launching features like Skype-out, Skype-in, video calls & conference calls. Though it did not bring any radically new features into the market, it ensured a continuous product evolution. It provided a seamless experience for every new feature on a simple, user-friendly interface and that’s what really makes the consumer happy.
The extent of attention this Microsoft-Skype takeover announcement has gained in the tech/telco world is nothing short of the eyeballs garnered by the royal wedding in the recent past. On a tongue in cheek note, I would say that Skype is pretty much like the blushing, ravishingly beautiful young princess who has, with the culmination of this grand marriage, become the object of attention for all.
The possibilities are endless and almost everybody is nurturing a great expectation. Analysts are already spinning out stories of how Skype integration can become a magic potion for Microsoft by countering Apple FaceTime on video-calling, countering Google +1 on social networking and supplementing its small-business cloud computing portfolio effectively with a telephony solution.
I expect Microsoft to leverage Skype’s lead & speed to introduce even better path-breaking innovations in the consumer & wholesale telecom space.

Gmail Gives 5 Seconds to Stop, Cancel, Undo Sent Email

Posted on 09:42 by Unknown
Do you wish you could press back or stop a wrong email message from whizzing across the internet. Gmail has introduced an undo feature which gives you a 5 second window to stop, cancel and undo a sent email. A great feature everyone always wanted.
Gmail now lets you cancel sending email when the send email button is already clicked
email cancel

Once the email is sent, it allows you to undo the email message
undo gmail
And the email is grabbed and safely sent back and undone.
email unsent
Undo Email is a Gmail Labs feature, which means it is not activated by default, and you need to enable the feature for it to work. The feature is so useful, that I believe it should be activated by default for all Gmail users. Its the most useful email feature ever, activate undo email now.
In Gmail > Settings > Labs > Undo Email > Enable > Save Changes

IE saves images as Bitmaps(.BMP)

Posted on 09:55 by Unknown

When you save an image in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the image is saved by default as a bitmap (.bmp). You do not have the option to save the image by using an extension other than .bmp. You experience this behavior even when the image uses a different format (such as .gif or .jpeg).

For example, when you right-click an image on a Web page, and then click Save Picture As, the file name that appears in the File name box is Untitled, and the file type that appears in the Save as type box is Bitmap (*.bmp).
This behavior may occur if a damaged program file (for example, an ActiveX or Java object) is downloaded to the SystemRoot\Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk.
To troubleshoot and resolve this behavior, empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder, and then delete the files in the Downloaded Program Files folder that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged.
To do so:
Start Internet Explorer (if it is not already started).
Empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder.
To do so:
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the General tab.
Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files.
When you are prompted to delete all temporary Internet files, click OK.
In the Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk, remove the files that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged. To do so:
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the General tab.
Under Temporary Internet files, click Settings.
Click View Objects.
The list of program files that are downloaded to the SystemRoot\Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk appears in the Downloaded Program Files window.
In the Status column, note the files that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged. Remove these files. To do so, right-click the file, and then click Remove.
When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click Yes.
Close the Downloaded Program Files window, and then click OK two times.
Save an image in Internet Explorer to test and determine if the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues to occur after you remove all downloaded program files that are listed as Unknown or Damaged, try removing the other downloaded program files that are on the list.
Note: The next time that you need one of the files that you removed from the Downloaded Program Files folder, you will receive a prompt to download the file to your hard disk in Internet Explorer.
If you follow these steps, and the issue still occurs, move the Temporary Internet Files folder to a new location. To move the folder, follow these steps:
Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Settings under Temporary Internet files.
Click Move Folder.
In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select a new location for the folder, and then click OK.
Click OK to close the Settings dialog box.
When you receive the following warning message, click Yes:
Windows will now log you off to finish moving Temporary Internet Files.
Do you want to continue?
(All other changes have been saved.)
Windows automatically logs you off of the computer.
Log back on to the computer.
